Exhibits,
Archie Moore A Circum/Intro/Extro/Retrospective
Opening: Wednesday 26 November, 6-8pm Dates: 26 November – 13 December 2014Exclusive to Melbourne, Australia’s first major Archie Moore retrospective brings together more than 20 works spanning all areas of his (and his alter egos’) practices from the 1990s to 2014 — paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, videos, text works, T-shirts and installations.
One of the most influential and important artists of late, Archie Moore created some of the most imponderable works of modern culture. The exhibition includes his catalytic ‘Uni Days’ works; iconic images of himself, Grubbanax Swinnasen and Magnus O’Pus (lead singer, lyricist and Shofar player of stoner-goth-surfmetal band ∑gg√e|n); and his rarely-seen short film “ Shrimper”(script). The exhibition will show for the first time in Australia Moore’s early expressionism paintings, drawings done as Grubbanax Swinnasen and for the second time, his latest sound installation “Sound Recording”. ‘Archie Moore – A Circum- Intro- Extro- Retrospective 1996-2014’will also investigate how the artist represented himself through his art practice, including his Self-Portrait works, poems/lyrics, drawings, sculptures and videos.
Archie Moore is a Brisbane-based artist who has also lived and worked in Prague, Czech Republic on a Samstag Scholarship. Moore/Swinnasen/O’Pus work across installation, sculpture, video, drawing, music/sound and publishing.
