Helen Gibbins ASFPP: What Helicopters Do For Us
Opening: Tuesday 29 April, 6-8pm Dates: 29 April-17 May 2003“Helen’s recent illustration works are in part inspired by her ongoing involvement with the Melbourne International Animation Festival, a role which sees her watch over 1500 short animated films a year. There is also evident in these intimately scaled drawings imagined situations that recall artists including Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch and the writing of Samuel Beckett.
‘My drawings tend to adopt an illustrative style to depict quirky scenarios that could very well be stills or pages plucked from an unknown source. Often they come across as somewhat confounding, as the narrative is not always clear (& nor should it necessarily be). Due to their small scale, they tend to entice the viewer to engage in closer inspection and hopefully ponder their own tale - a theatrical directive in itself.’ (Helen Gibbins – artist)”
