Song-Ming Ang, Boe-Lin Bastian, Catherine Ross, Kieren Seymour BON MOT
Opening: Wednesday 22 May, 6-8pm Dates: 21 May-8 June 2013Bon Mot is a collection of five short video works that deliver an assortment of comical moments, records and situations. By emphasising the ability of video to communicate a measured punchline, the works in Bon Mot employ different comedic paces – be it through traditional joke telling, repetition or a slapstick scene. The intention here is to amuse and captivate the viewer for a brief moment in time, with each video running under five minutes.
Meaning ‘a clever remark’, the wit of a bon mot exists in its context-specific nature as opposed to a joke, which can be successfully repeated outside of its original framework. For the exhibition Bon Mot, these videos rely upon their medium to convey a humorous experience.
Song-Ming Ang (Singapore/Germany), Boe-Lin Bastian (Australia), Catherine Ross (USA), Kieren Seymour (UK/Australia). This is the first Australian showing of work by Song-Ming Ang (Berlin) and Catherine Ross (New York).
