The contemporary office – an environment built with a heightened need to minimise cost and maximise productivity. Countless scientific research has been undertaken to understand how workers’ levels of psychomotor vigilance, mental health and motivation can be cost-effectively influenced by factors such as specific furniture dimensions, lighting colour temperatures, thermal conditions, and strategically placed windows. For all this controlled construction, the office is a space occupied unquestionably day in and day out by many people. Through drawing, installation and video, Business As Usual takes an abstracted view of the nature of the office, re-imagining new possibilities for human interaction, our sense of place, and what we accept as necessary in order to make a living.
