Josephine Mead Covid Drawings - Artist Book Launch

Dates: Thursday 9 December, 6-8pm

‘Covid Drawings’ is an artist book containing fifty seven digital drawings by Josephine Mead, created during various stages of lock-down in 2020. The drawings act as meditations on the pandemic—through both personal and global frameworks. The book has been printed at a limited edition of 100 copies, all of which are numbered/signed. The grey linen covers have been bound and embossed by hand. The drawings are accompanied by an introductory essay courtesy of writer Daniel Stephensen. This publication was possible thanks to generous support from Whittlesea Arts.

Josephine Mead is a visual artist, writer and curator based on Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri woi-wurrung Country. She works through photography, sculpture, installation and writing to explore personal notions of support. Her recent work has positioned female family members as support-structures, considered the body as a site of discursive practice, explored notions of deep listening, and examined the temporal and sonic nature of writing and photography. She has exhibited widely, nationally and internationally, and has undertaken residency programs in rural Victoria (The Macfarlane Fund Residency), Mexico (The Arquetopia Foundation Residency), Turkey (Tasarim Bakkali TAB Residency), Portugal (Córtex Frontal Residency) and Germany (ZK/U Residency). She is an Artistic Director for BLINDSIDE Gallery, co-founder of Co- Publishing and a current Room to Create studio artist at Collingwood Yards.
