"Double Holiday"
Matthew Dettmer

Opening: Wednesday 30 April, 6-8pm
Dates: 30 April-17 May 2014

Matthew Dettmer’s practice is concerned with our manufactured environment; that being all of the designed objects that we buy, use and see everyday. He uses sculpture, painting and video to illustrate these themes. By appropriating aspects of found objects, re-imagined forms are created. Within this exhibition Dettmer creates a dialogue between cultural signifiers and material transformation.

Matthew Dettmer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne. He graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in 2012. His work deals with elements of consumerism, design and cultural trends through sculpture, photography, installation and painting. He has recently exhibited at Platform Contemporary Art Spaces and The Laundries. In 2013 Matthew was a recipient of ArtStart from the Australia Council and the Studio Start Up residency at the Abbotsford Convent.
