Pip Ryan Going around in circles

My work explores ideas of dislocation and confusion through means of the moving image. I explore these ideas through the use of movement, filming directly into a mirror, which records both forward and backward movement simultaneously in the same frame. This adds as a barrier that is impenetrable by the viewer as the imagery overpowers both forward and backward movement, in effect going nowhere but somewhere. ‘Going around in circles’ explores these ideas of dislocation using relentless and constant sound and imagery, giving a loaded frame of conflicting motion. This disorientation causes a physical displacement within the viewer making the imagery difficult to locate. It is these sense and motives that inform the work and are continued in my practice today.
