Charlie Hillhouse Parts of Cars

In ‘Parts of Cars’, Charlie Hillhouse continues his comedic yet metaphorically heavy exploration of daily life. In this exhibition Hillhouse pairs text from his collection of unpersonalised car registration plates with out of focus photographs of car bonnets. Removed from their original context these images strive to create a purely emotional response from the viewer.

Charlie Hillhouse is a Brisbane-based photographer and passionate advocate of DIY publishing. He established Small House Books in 2010, and has produced limited edition publications and printed material showcasing the work of Brisbane artists. In his own practice his works blends a snapshot mentality with abstraction produced through a combination of printing techniques and image manipulations.
