Exhibition:

"River ~ Prairie ~ Sunrise"
Sean Rafferty

Opening: Wednesday 9 November, 6-8pm
Dates: 9 - 26 November 2016

Sean Rafferty uses processes of collecting, mapping and archiving to search for meanings in the ways that places are represented. One of his current (and ongoing) collections is comprised of Australian fruit cartons. This collection, which is mapped in various ways, functions as a research archive of fruit carton artwork that speaks - both knowingly and unconsciously - for where the cartons are from.

For 'River ~ Prairie ~ Sunrise', Rafferty has located cartons in his collection that have landscapes, or depictions of place, as their artwork. Through a process of editing each carton is stripped of its text and other graphic components, leaving the landscape as the sole focus for the viewer. Exhibited as a series of postcards, these landscapes are presented as truthful representations of the places they depict.
