Exhibits,
Kate Meakin, Noriko Nakamura, Virginia Overell Singular, Plural
Opening: Wednesday 14 August, 6-8pm Dates: 14 – 31 August 2013The ‘working’ of materials maintains a certain precedence in our sculptural practises, found and acquired objects undergo varying degrees of alteration ranging from the subtle arrangement of textiles to the alchemical melting of rocks, yet always maintain an important relation to their original form or function. Materials are worked with rather than mastered – engaged with for their associative qualities rather then for their characteristic autonomy.
Continuing a dialogue which has spanned several exhibitions – ‘Because We are All Animals’ Disco Beans Art Space 2011, ‘Mainly Everything’ TCB Art Inc. 2011 & ‘Consultancy’ NGV Studio 2011 – this collection of individual sculptural and assemblage works, places our work in an intimate spatial dialogue in which separate materials converge, diverge, layer and overlap.
This meeting of diverse objects will enhance articulation of their multiple ambiences – aesthetic, metaphysical & spiritual- whilst emphasising the singular ways in which they have been worked.
