The Phonetic Orchestra and Ensemble The Phonetic Ensemble
Opening: Saturday 8 June from 6pm Dates: 8 June 2013The Phonetic Orchestra and Ensemble was created by Jon Heilbron in 2012 as a vehicle to explore the evolving relationship between notation and sound. Its members are assembled from a large group of Melbourne-based musicians working across fields such as contemporary classical music and music of an improvisatory and/or experimental nature.
The Phonetic Ensemble focuses on presenting composed and improvised works involving small, interchangeable instrumental configurations as well as performing the music of the Wandelweiser Composer’s Collective.
Jon Heilbron is an Australian Double Bass player and composer working in the Contemporary Classical, Improvised and Orchestral music fields. In 2012 he initiated The Phonetic Orchestra and Ensemble to develop work in the areas of non-standard notational systems and the combinative possibilities of Improvisation and Composition. He also performs as part of OUTLINE (with Ren Walters and Sam Hall), The Constabulatory (with Brett Thompson and James McLean) and HEILBRON | HANSEN | MCLEAN (alongside Ida Duelund Hansen and James McLean).
