Baden Pailthorpe has completed a Bachelor of Arts,The University of Sydney, Australia; Master of Art,The College of Fine Arts, UNSW, Sydney, Australia; Master of Fine Art, l'Université Paris VIII, Vincennes — Saint-Denis, Paris, France; and a PhD in Creative Practice & New Media from The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Situated predominantly within the field of new media, Pailthorpe’s works negotiate the relationship between warfare and the performative traditions and rituals of military institutions. He appropriates propaganda cinema and combat simulators.Pailthorpe has participated in over sixty solo and group exhibitions, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; NIMk, Amsterdam; la Gaîté Lyrique, Paris; the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; ARTSPACE, Sydney; the UQ Art Museum, Brisbane and the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. In 2013, Pailthorpe was the inaugural Australia Council artist in residence at the Australian War Memorial. His work is held in numerous private and public collections. Baden Pailthorpe is represented by Sullivan+Strumpf, Sydney/Singapore.
