150x120x120mm
Edition of 3, unique
Acrylic gap sealant, acrylic paint and varnish on found vessels

Born in Dunedin, New Zealand and of Ngā Puhi and Danish descent, Ruby Brown is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts. Solo exhibitions include Negotiation 101, Bus Projects, 2019; Multi-Purpose Gap Filler, c3 Contemporary Art Space, 2016; and Finding, Rubicon ARI, 2014. Group exhibitions include Painting Revealed, Sutton Projects, 2016 and I is Another, George Paton Gallery, 2015.

Ruby Brown's practice is influenced by Māori mythology and explores the fleshy weight of boundaries, spaces, lines and labels. Found materials are reborn through sculpture, paint and action, exploring fibrous unions between anthropological ideas and materiality. These limited edition works use found vessels smothered and muted with gap filler—a recurring material in Brown's practice—the wet filler marked with black paint, then slashed and cut to re-open the sealant.
