Sarah Ujmaia
"Pistachio Frame"
Edition of 3, unique
graphite on paper

Sarah Ujmaia (b.1995) is a first generation Chaldean Iraqi artist, currently undertaking her Honours in Fine Art at Monash University. Her practice is underpinned by varying drawing strategies, however her work also uses a sculptural and spatial language. She is interested in highlighting experienced and observed narrative in order to speak to the tensions that exist for an individual living in a diaspora. She has an interest in the gendered effects of forced migration, in how food can take the form an ethnographic object, in challenging normative expectations of the female body, and in "framing".
